The Truth About Transferring Your
Phone Number To Or From ACI

By Jared Hess

ACI Call Tracking has been noted as a leader in the industry, providing Call recording, outbound call tracking, web tracking, and local numbers at no extra charge. They are renowned for their unique “Chat Feature” which enables its client’s administrator, webmaster, or any of its employees to receive and respond to text communications from multiple users.

As part of their competitive edge, ACI Call Tracking offers no line minimum, no set up fee or long term contract, and pay as you go billing for $20 monthly per line. Not only is ACI able to transfer their client’s existing telephone numbers in three to five days, but allows its client’s to retain ownership of that number. While owning a phone number may seem a simple luxury, it is one not afforded by others in the industry. ACI numbers are yours. You will not be charged any fees for bringing numbers into their system as well as moving numbers out. ACI Call Tracking realizes that you may not need tracking numbers indefinitely but as long as you are in business you will need the numbers.

The FCC explains that; “Under the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) “local number portability” (LNP) rules, so long as you remain in the same geographic area, you can switch telephone service providers, including interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers, and keep your existing phone number. If you are moving from one geographic area to another, however, you may not be able to take your number with you. Therefore, subscribers remaining in the same geographic area can now switch from a wireless, wireline, or VoIP provider to any other wireless, wireline, or VoIP provider and still keep their existing phone numbers.”

One of the great thing about tracking numbers is they are not defined by the geographic regions set up by the telephony industry. Tracking numbers are set up as “virtual numbers” and thus can go where you go from city to city or state to state. This will allow companies to port number into and out of their system at will and as needed.

What isn't explained with the same clarity by other tracking companies is that the number you are keeping is not yours to keep, at least not without a price. The port associated with that number is owned by the company and you are allowed to use and transfer it accordingly. At one point in time, regardless of your telephone subscriber, your number was assigned to various service providers. The service providers then provide these numbers to the subscribers who provide the use of those numbers to you. Make sure you know who really owns your businesses phone numbers.
